ABOUT

A Founding Letter

Loudmouth began in the margins of another publication.

Before it had a name or a website of its own, writers were exchanging ideas, responding to prompts and finding unexpected ways into one another’s work.

A conversation became a poem. A writing exercise turned into a collaboration. People who had never met found themselves sharing a byline.

What began as something fleeting kept becoming something worth preserving.

I wanted to give it a life beyond the place where it started.

Loudmouth grew out of that question.

My experience as a writer has taught me as much about the limits of literary judgement as it has about its importance. I've had work published, work rejected, and work that came remarkably close to finding a home. I've learnt that even the most considered editorial decision is, ultimately, an expression of particular tastes, priorities and convictions.

That is not a weakness of literary publishing. It is part of what gives individual magazines their character.

EDITORIAL   MISSION

Loudmouth is an independent literary magazine celebrating fearless voices, unruly storytelling and writing that pushes beyond convention.

We welcome poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, hybrid forms and work that resists easy classification.

We are interested in what happens when a writer questions not only what can be said, but how it might be said.

We value precision without predictability, experimentation without affectation, and emotional honesty without sentimentality.

We want writing that rewards attention.

Despite our name, we don’t believe a piece needs to shout to be heard. Some of the most daring writing is remarkably quiet.

What matters is the conviction behind it.
